With the movement of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) to support 3×3 basketball through the National Collegiate Championship (NCC), it was amazing to find players like diamonds in the rough that has great potential in the sport.
Here are the top performers for each leg of the tournament:
Aaron Carullo – Trace College (South Luzon)
With incredible accuracy, Aaron Carullo of Trace College dominated the competition in the South Luzon leg. Averaging 18.3 points, what is fascinating is his accuracy on shooting the three-point bomb at 37% and averaging at least 2 three-point shots per game. Above that, he also rebounded at an average of 3.5 per game. It is no question that Trace College topped the South Luzon leg with Carullo at the helm.
Jepher John Egan – Southern Philippines College (Mindanao)
When the ball touches Jepher John Egan’s hands inside, you can list it down as a sure basket most of the time. Averaging 80% below the arc, Egan’s incredible accuracy to shoot the ball can also be reflected at the free throw line where he shot 89% as well. Averaging 18 points per game, he reserved his best performance in the finals against Southern City College as he finished with a statistical line of 26 points, 5 rebounds and never missed in the free throw line sinking all his 10 shots.
Jayson Apolinario –Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (North Luzon)
DMMMSU found a gem with a player like Jayson Apolinario. Shooting at an incredible rate at 71% from the field, Apolinario’s shot selection made him the top scorer in the North Luzon leg. Furthermore, Apolinario knows when to step back as he helped his teammate, Jonathan Abao burst up in their finals game against University of Luzon with 29 points while he complimented with 20 of his own. With an unselfish scorer like him, DMMMSU advances to the National Finals with him and Abao as a lethal combination to watch out for.
Josue Segumpan Jr. – University of Visayas (Visayas)
A standout from the University of Visayas, Josue Segumpan Jr. dominated the leg with his scoring as he averaged 22 points per game throughout the tournament. Carrying his team in the finals, he scored more than half of the team’s total points with 24 points as they seal the victory against the University of San Juan – Recoletos.
Bryan Cabrera – Our Lady of Fatima University (NCR)
Probably the best shooter in the entire 3-on-3 tournament right now, Cabrera’s deadly touch carried Our Lady of Fatima University to the NCR leg championship. Averaging 20.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per outing, Cabrera also sank almost 5 three-point bombs per game and shot an amazing 40% from beyond the arc. His best shooting display was against De La Salle-Araneta University where scored 30 points with 27 of those all coming from the three-point line.
