As they say, “The King of the Jungle is the Lion.”

That certainly was the case in the opening contest of Day Two of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Elite Eight when the San Beda Red Lions conquered the Holy Trinity College Wildcats, 85-46, Friday afternoon at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

A 20-7 scoring blast in the opening period spearheaded by the Red Lions was all the reigning NCAA Champions needed to pounce upon their prey, and through relentlessly attacks from both sides of the floor, the Wildcats were simply no match for their hungry and intense foe. HTC was limited to just 13 points in the first half. They trailed from the opening tip.

Furthermore, San Beda outclassed HTC in all major statistical categories, save for the 3pt% (both teams shot a measly 27%) and personal fouls committed (both with 16). All players who suited up for the Mendiola-based squad scored, led by Robert Bolick’s 13 and Clint Doliguez’ 11.

Looking at the other side of the fence, four Wildcats who saw action were held scoreless. HTC’s high point man was Everby Dialogo with 15 to go along with 7 rebounds.

With the convincing victory, San Beda improves to 2-0 to stay atop of Group B, while HTC drops to 1-1.

ON DECK: The Red Lions’ next assignment will be against the De La Salle Green Archers on Saturday 3:00PM, while the Wildcats are due to face the San Sebastian Stags tomorrow, February 10, at 3:00PM.
