The Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates made a big run in the third quarter that led them to victory over the University of the Visayas Green Lancers, 88-80, in the second contest of Friday’s action of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Elite Eight at the Ynares Sports Arena.

LPU managed to double up their UV opponents 28-14 to establish a 17-point lead at the end of the third period. The advantage was just enough as the Pirates were able to take control the rest of the way for the win.

The tandem of Jaycee Marcelino and CJ Perez, who were huge in the aforementioned third quarter, combined to score 28 points while making 56% of their shot attempts from the field.

UV was led by their wingman Rey Anthony Suerte who recorded a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds to boot.

As of press time, LPU and UV has an identical win-loss record of 1-1 in the Group A standings.

ON DECK: The Pirates will face the NCF Tigers tomorrow at 1:00PM, while UV gears up for their game against the reigning UAAP Champions Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles later in the day at 5:00PM.
