One of the features of the forthcoming 30th Southeast Asian games to be hosted by the Philippines, November 30 to December 11, 2019, is the inclusion of Esports as one of the medal events. Esports is popular not only in the country but more so globally and where Filipinos are considered world class players.

There are six gold medals at stake in the SEA Games, two for Mobile games, Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor, which are immensely popular among students using mobile phones and tablets.

One of the overriding objectives of PCCL is to promote school-based sports programs and assist schools maintain balance in the academic and sports activities of students. In pursuit of this goal, PCCL is in partnership with Esports World Federation (ESWF) to conduct grassroots program to increase awareness of the Esports and provide student-athletes with other options for sports activities. PCCL involvement in school-based sports, in addition to Esports, now includes 5×5 collegiate basketball, 3×3 Under-18 basketball and starting next season, men’s volleyball.

Within the month of April, PCCL, in partnership with ESWF, will launch the first nationwide school-based Esports tournament with at least five (5) regional games, culminating to the Grand Finals scheduled in September.
