The chill from the Northeast Monsoon may have been sweeping all over the Metro as of late, but the temperatures are sure to rise when the National Capital Region Qualifiers of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League makes its way at the Jose Rizal University Gym from January 15 to 18.

Six of the region’s top schools, namely, Jose Rizal University, Colegio de San Lorenzo, St. Clare College of Caloocan, University of the Philippines, PATTS College of Aeronautics, and San Sebastian College-Recoletos jumpstart the NCR leg as they engage on a two-group, four-day clash to determine who will walk away as the victor.

Among the favorites are JRU wherein they will try to make the most out of the homecourt advantage and hope that their supporters come out in droves as the Heavy Bombers gun for a higher finish fresh off their Final Four berth in the 93rd season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Speaking of ascension, the Fighting Maroons have, in their minds, no way to go but UP as the state college’s senior basketball team have been showing steady improvement in their quality of play ever since head coach Bo Perasol took over the program. Just a game shy from a playoff berth in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 80, the Diliman-based squad aim to build on the momentum and be one step closer towards basketball glory.

The winner of this stage qualifies for the National Quarterfinals, more popularly known as the Elite Eight.
